Outdoor Education
Outdoor education is basically organized learning which takes place in the great outdoors.
Outdoor education programmes can include travel or wilderness-based adventures in which
students engage in various adventurous activities like hiking, camping, climbing, canoeing,
kayaking, rucksacks courses and even group sports like hunting, fishing, shooting, and trailing.
The objective of any such activity is to educate the participants in environmental science,
geography, history and psychology.
There are many advantages to getting enrolled into an outdoor education course. Students will
get the opportunity to work with nature in all its forms. This includes seeing, touching, hearing,
smelling, and tasting various different types of plants and animals along with the soil and other
substances in it. Outdoor education programmes are designed to make students aware of the
importance of protecting our environment and promoting sustainability. They also enhance
students’ critical thinking skills, foster social interaction, improve communication and introduce
them to computer-assisted design (CAD) programs. Students at a forest school under the expert
guidance of a trained ecologist can expect to learn several ecological concepts such as
ecological psychology, global environmental awareness, biodiversity, sustainability
management, ecological assessment, community environment planning, risk management and
organizational learning.
An environment-friendly outdoor activity for students will give them the opportunity to interact
with others outside while gaining knowledge about the importance of preserving our
environment. A successful outdoor learning experience will include a mix of theoretical learning,
hands-on activities and interaction with nature. It should also be an inspiring, stimulating and
enjoyable experience for both students and teachers alike. An exciting project based on an
outdoor theme can be very rewarding for students.
